still life.

This week, i did the still life assignment. The assignment was to take photos of arranged subjects, much like for advertisements or products. I used lighting techniques from natural light to enhance the photos.

I learned how to make a professional-looking photo by thinking about backgrounds, lighting and the subject. I found it was helpful to have a pattern-filled background or a solid background to enhance the picture.

event.

This week, I went to a cross country banquet and took pictures for "event". The assignment was to capture elements of the event, so I captured the bright colors, party favors, and artwork on the tables.

I enjoyed this assignment because I got photo ideas from the people around me. Also, the options for photographs were changing with the event.

portrait demo.

For this assignment, we learned how to take portrait photos in different lighting settings.We went to the studio for a demonstration, and we learned how to set up the studio lights for a good photograph. Then we took pictures in front of a window, using the sun's light as our source.

With this assignment, I took portrait photos for the first time. It was interesting to see the difference in the light sources, and I enjoyed learning how the lights were set up.

For this week I chose to do the architecture assignment, and to capture unique things about buildings. I chose this picture because it had a good perspective to it, and it the street really caught my attention when I saw it.

This week, I learned how to take pictures at complimenting angles for buildings, and I discovered ways to make them look taller, shorter, smaller, longer, etc. I also discovered new tools in gimp that enhanced my pictures.

Black and White

For the black and white assignment, we were to take pictures using the black and white setting that lend themselves well as B&W photos better than colored photos. This particular photo I chose to take in black and white so that I could capture the overall gloominess of the scene.
